Trinity Church, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has enjoyed a long history as a strong entity in the Elmira community, occupying a prominent position, both physically and spiritually, in the Downtown area. Trinity’s location is ideal in the proposed “Cultural Connector” linking Elmira College to downtown Elmira in a pedestrian-friendly corridor. Trinity is actively engaged in the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and have established ourselves as the Crossroads Community Center at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Trinity regularly partners with other area Episcopal churches on projects that serve our community, including a free lunch, quarterly in the calendar year. We also hold a monthly free breakfast. Trinity Church houses a Children’s Clothing Closet (free by referral) and a Thrift Shop with reasonably priced clothing and household items. Trinity is home to the board of Second Place East, an organization that provides household and personal items to those transitioning from homelessness. We are also a site for the Community Cupboard Project. Trinity’s Sanctuary and Parish Hall are handicap accessible.
We are share our Rector, Mother Wanda Copeland, with St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Horseheads. Holy Eucharist is celebrated at Trinity on Sundays at 9 a.m. and on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
Life at Trinity tends to be very active. It takes people with diverse skills and talents to make Trinity’s mission work. There is a blending and mutual respect of all generations at Trinity. This diversity provides strength to the parish.
Worship follows the Book of Common Prayer and on occasion approved alternative liturgies. The congregation enjoys singing traditional music with organ accompaniment and more contemporary music with guitar from time to time.
If you are seeking a community of faith, whose ministry is focused on helping our community, we welcome you into the life of our parish and service to our community. Please join us in worship and/or service. For more information contact our Parish Office.
